Thirty years have passed since I left my full-time job in business to return to college to fulfill my passion for becoming a mental health therapist. I define one's life “Passion” as that one thing you love to do and would do it for free if you could not be paid; however, if you get paid, even better! Again, my life’s “Passion” was to become a therapist. My personality fits with being a therapist. I am a kind and compassionate person who is easy to talk to and, of course, I am a great listener. During my school years I was that person that friends came to for advice and comfort.
As it does, time moves on and I just could not find the right time to return to college; it just never seemed to provide itself! Then one day like a tornado in the night I was facing a crisis. A crisis that forced me to reassess my life. A friend and coworker committed suicide. The suicide was devastating, to say the least, and as suicides do, it left me asking myself what I missed or if I could have done anything to prevent it. The realization that no one really knows what tomorrow holds pushed me to return to college.
I find it extremely rewarding to help others realize their potential, heal, and thrive. When receiving counseling services from me my goal is to have you feel as though you have gained a new “professional” friend. I want you to feel comfortable and safe when discussing private and sensitive issues. Confidentiality is paramount to my counseling services.
I have 21+ years counseling experience providing counseling services in both private and public agencies treating a wide variety of issues, such as, anxiety, depression, various forms of trauma, mood disorders, and relationships. In 2008 I opened my private practice, Heritage Counseling, PLLC, providing counseling services for all ages.
My education includes a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, from Boise State University, Boise, Idaho, wherein I graduated in the top 10% of the University's graduates as well as Magna cum laude; additionally, I completed my graduate studies at the University of Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah, earning a Master of Social Work, also Magna cum laude.
A little about my personal life, I am married, a mother to three beautiful daughters, including a set of twins. When I am not providing therapy I spend my time with my family camping, swimming, and just doing what families do! I love spending time with my grandchildren being creative with arts and crafts and, last, but not least, I have a dog, named Jaxon.
I hope the information I have provided here helps you to feel more comfortable and more confident when reaching out to begin your counseling journey.
